Piles:
All piles shall be fluted steel tubes, having a uniformly tapered lower section which may be combined with extensions of essentially constant diameter, of a type wherein the tubes are driven to a required penetration, left permanently in place, and filled with concrete.

Material Specifications:
The material in the pile shall comply with SAE-1010 steel specifications having the following chemical ranges and limits:

  • Carbon 0.08 to 0.13 (%)
  • Manganese 0.30 to 0.60 (%)
  • Sulfur 0.05 (% max.)
  • Phosphorous 0.04 (% max.)

Minimum tensile yield strength of the steel in fabricated pile, as determined by standard tests, shall be 50,000 psi.

Steel piles shall be strong enough to withstand safely the forces of installation, but in no case shall the wall thickness of the pile be less than 1/10 of an inch.

Point diameter shall be not less than 8 inches. Piles shall taper not less than one inch in eight feet, excepting that when such taper has developed a diameter of *____ inches, the piles may be extended with sections having a diameter which is virtually constant. All splices shall consist of a continuous weld to form an integral pile.

Insert appropriate butt diameter, i.e., 12”, 14”, 16”, 18”.

Design Computation
